Kelly Goodelle and Ironman Cozumel

Years ago, with my Dad's encouragement, I signed up for my first triathlon in an effort to get back in shape after the birth of my son. My Dad had been racing in triathlons for a number of years and it quickly became a passion we both shared. We raced in several triathlons together enjoying the camaraderie but also the love of competing against each other. It was after a long run together that we decided that once my children were school aged, we would complete our first Ironman together. An Ironman is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and a full marathon"”26.2 miles, in that order without a break. Each athlete must complete the course in 17 hours or be disqualified.
Unfortunately, our dream never came to fruition. My Dad was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer and died 6 weeks later. Stunned and heartbroken I did the only thing I knew that would make me feel better"”prayed and trained (sometime simultaneously). I eventually decided to fulfill our dream, if only with my Dad's spirit, and completed the Rev 3 Ironman in September 2011.
I have decided to participate in another Ironman"”Ironman Cozumel on December 1, 2013. Participating in my first Ironman did so much to ease my soul that this time I want to give back. That is why I have chosen to use this race to fundraise for Our Lady's Christian School. Not only does OLCS have excellent academics, they provide a wide variety of sports for both boys and girls in every grade. More importantly however, they teach children about God. Students come to know and love God in everything they do every day. Please know that 100% of your donation (less a small administration fee by the website) will go to Our Lady's Christian School. I have chosen $1406 as my goal amount to represent $10 for each of the 140.6 miles I will be swimming, biking, or running. Please feel free to leave the name of someone that has passed that inspired, encouraged, or helped you to know God. I will be carrying these names with me and when the "going gets tough" as it often does in an Ironman, I will look at the names to gain motivation and strength. Thank you for reading my story and your consideration in donating to this wonderful school.
