Anyo Indonesia Foundation Fundraiser

Fifty cents a night. That's it. Within the context of the Anyo Indonesian Foundation, fifty cents a night signifies the only cost a family must absorb in order to allow their cancer-afflicted child a chance at survival.
Yet, while the average American citizen accrues $30,000 yearly, his or her Indonesian counterpart amasses just $2,000, with those living in agrarian villages making far less. Further having only celebrated its 68th birthday on August 17th and encompassing an archipelago of more than 18,000 islands, Indonesia has been dealt the onerous task of uniformly distributing vital information. The motto "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" (unity in diversity) exhibited through an amalgamation of 567 regional dialects has unfortunately only compounded the aforementioned difficulties. Lastly, with just 900 oncologists for a burgeoning nation of 240 million people, the doctors are heavily concentrated in the major cities, often far from those who would benefit most.
Pinta, the founder of the organization, was confronted by these problems years ago. Struck by leukemia at a young age, her son Anyo was rushed to Academisch Medisch Centrum Hospital in Amsterdam. There, they were warmly welcomed into the Ronald McDonald house at little cost. Despite losing his battle with cancer, Anyo inspired Pinta to found an organization dedicated to providing similar accommodations in Indonesia's capital city, Jakarta.
