Help Us Keep Camp Free for Our Students

4th and 1-East Texas is not your typical summer camp. We serve at-risk student-athletes in Texas by combining football training with SAT prep and life skills development. Plus, we are an entirely volunteer-run non-profit committed to providing our camp to all student-athletes for free.

Our student-athletes spend six days on the campus of Northeast Texas Community College. Each day begins with a 6 a.m. jog, followed by yoga, football training, SAT prep, and life skills workshops on topics such as public speaking, dinner etiquette, resume writing and interview skills, nutrition, and the college application process.

During camp, student-athletes work one-on-one with mentors who continue to guide them throughout the school year.

The majority of our student-athletes are first-generation college hopefuls from single-parent households.

Since 2010, we have provided this camp experience for free to over 100 young men in Texas. We have seen gains in SAT scores and academic performance. We have also seen our student-athletes gain admission to colleges and universities.

Here's what some of our student-athletes have to say about camp:

"I have come a long way since I first went to 4th and 1 camp two summers ago. My grades have come up greatly and I have changed for the better. I see college in my future and because of my mentors from 4th and 1 I believe in myself and my abilities."

“It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I come from a small town where everybody knows everybody. There are a bunch of kids driving new trucks and cars and they always have money to go to camps or buy new athletic gear. Then there are kids like me, just kids with parents that do the best they can. We are not supposed to be the kids that get to go to camps like 4th and 1."

"Several of the life skill classes has really helped me. One that really made me feel a sense of pride was learning how to tie a tie. It made me realize how much more professional you look when going for an interview with a tie on. I also really liked learning table etiquette.  Being able to know which fork is which and knowing how to conduct youself at the table is really eye opening. You never know who you will have the opportunity to break bread with someday."

"The 4th and 1 camp helped me develop stronger social skills that are required of me in more professional environments. I have used these skills in job interviews and at college fairs and visits so far, even receiving complements on how I handle myself with adults."

“The amount of participation that was needed in all of the workshops helped me significantly. Especially during the job interview workshop when you had to be interviewed in front of the whole group, I had to get out of my comfort level and speak in front of people. This helped me greatly in school, because I'm comfortable participating and presenting in front of a class now, whereas before I was nervous.  My participation lets the teacher know that I care about that class and my grade.”

Five years later, we need your help to ensure that we can continue to provide this camp for free to all our student-athletes this July 6-11! Please help support our student-athletes!
