A Handicap Ramp For The Thomsons
Sue and John Thomson both have serious mobility problems, and each uses a cane or walker. Sue is a retired nurse and a full-time caregiver for John. She has given generously and tirelessly to her friends and community, helping us heal and negotiate the health care system. Now a recent injury for Sue and surgery for John have left both of them nearly immobile as they recuperate. Unfortunately, all entrances to their Frederick home require negotiation of 5 or 6 steps, so they have an urgent need for an accessible entrance in order to continue to live there independently. This project is to build a sturdy, safe entry ramp to their front door. The ramp will be ADA compliant to allow for all future needs. We will be relying primarily on volunteer labor. The funds raised here will be used to purchase materials, and pay for costs associated with planning and permitting. The latter has already been completed, and we are ready to start actual construction to have it completed prior to the onset of winter weather.
