My name is Melanie, and in the picture with me is my granddaughter Grace. She is the reason I am asking for help. I am in a custody battle with her parents, and I need help to pay my attorney. This battle has been persisting for three years now. During this entire time, Grace has been living with me exclusively since she was 2.5 years old. She is now 5.
Grace is in my care because her parents are unable to financially, mentally, and emotionally support her as she grows. Grace has spina bifida, dietary issues, and it is highly possible she will have learning disabilities as well. Grace was placed with me under the authority of Child Protective Services, and with the agreement of her parents. After she had been with me for several months, Grace's parents separated and are in the midst of a divorce. Grace's mother has since had another child, with another man, without being divorced; so both custody of Grace and the divorce was pushed back. In the midst of all of this, the father's mother has decided to battle me for Grace's custody through her father. All of this has drawn out the custody case, and driven up my case costs.
It has been professionally proven that Grace's parents are unfit parents through both the CPS case, and psychological evaluations of both parents. Grace has thrived in her development in the three years that she has been with me, and I am in a fight to keep her with me. My savings are now depleted, but court costs keep rising. I have a job but we are living pay check to pay check; me being a single grandparent with 100% financial responsibility of a special needs child.
Grace and I would appreciate any help and support that you would be gracious in providing. Please help me to keep Grace thriving in the only stable and loving home environment that she has ever known. Anything over the amount needed to pay my attorney will be donated to Tx Children's Hospital.
