Help Matty Fight Kidney Disease

On January 23rd 2018, we should have been celebrating Matty’s 33rd Birthday, we weren’t. Instead we were sitting with the kidney specialist learning about dialysis and how Matt’s kidneys combined are functioning at 20%. Matt has been battling type 2 diabetes for some time now and unfortunately it has finally won. January 23rd now marks the day that Matty starts his process of the journey towards a double kidney transplant. He will start dialysis 7 days a week at 8hrs a day. Below I will give a brief description of the type of dialysis from the Mayo Clinic medical book.According to the Mayo Clinic, Peritoneal dialysis is a commonly used blood-filtering procedure. Most people who start dialysis with peritoneal dialysis will eventually experience further decline in kidney function and will need Hemodialysis or a kidney transplant. Mathew has stage 5 chronic kidney disease in both kidneys. This is not reversible and he does need a double kidney transplant. This is obviously a tough pill to swallow especially at his age. His life, along with his wife’s is now forever changed. Recently Matty and his wife moved to a larger home and purchased a new vehicle. Matt has been told that he is no longer able to work at this time and his return date is undetermined. It is also not guaranteed that he will ever be able to return to work. His wife Kim is now going to be his 24hr caregiver, emotional support, and financial support. Matt has always been known to others a carefree, hardworking, selfless man. He is always there to help anyone no matter the situation and never does he ask for anything in return. This GoFundMe account is being created to help support both Matt and Kim during this unfortunate stressful time. The funds collected will go directly to the both of them to help ease the new financial burdens they will face while Matt goes through this new medical journey.In March there will also be a benefit in Mathews honor.
