Jo & Mike Bennett - Medical Fund

Donativo protegido
Who would have thought this??? We thought the Bennett's would long be home by now but they are starting on the third month of Mike being in ICU in Humucao, Puerto Rico.

We had hope that they would be transported back to Florida before Thanksgiving but that door was closed by the insurance company so they continue to stay where they are.

Unfortunately the expenses keep piling up. I know this is the time of year when funds are short because of the Christmas, so you know if are able to give.

This is all my (Deidrea's) doing. Jo doesn't complain about anything but I know how tough it is getting. Mike has no idea yet of your generosity in the months before. Asking for help is a humbling act and for some it is more difficult than others. So on their behalf, I am asking.

Thank You
In HIS Love,
Deidrea

I posted this also 2 months ago!:
Hello to all! My name is Deidrea. My best friend, Jo and her husband went to see their God-daughter get married in San Juan, Puerto Rico on September 28th. What was supposed to be a joyous time has turned into nightmare. While there, Mike became ill and after a continuing decline, he was rushed by ambulance to the hospital. He was admitted into the ICU where he still remains. Mike had developed bronchial pneumonia and had to be placed on a ventilator. During the first week Mike had to be sedated because he kept trying to remove the tubing in his throat. He is also being fed thru another tube into his stomach. Also during the first week he developed a fungal infection in his kidney's which have now shut themselves down. His red blood cell counts have been dropping so now the doctors are going to do a blood transfusion.
Jo is such a woman of God and her faith in the Lord has been her strength though at times she is totally overwhelmed by the situation. She clings to His Word as in Matthew 11:28 where Jesus tells us to "Come to Him all ye that are weary and heavy laden and He will give you rest". For Jo, being in a place where she cannot speak the language and so many do not speak English has been very frustrating and taxing on her (she did take Spanish lessons for a while "“ talk about something funny "“ ever hear a heavy Alabama drawl speaking Spanish? Would make a good comedy routine!)
The medical system in Puerto Rico does not provide the patient with so many things that we have come to expect in the States such as pillows, pillow cases, blankets, compression socks, personal care items, lotions, soap, towels:and then Jo has to take the linens and wash when they become dirty. (I am not meaning to sound whiney about this, it is just different than we have become accustomed to and to be in another place without anyone with her and to have to do laundry when she is not sleeping much is kind of like a kick in the pants). Needless to say, this is becoming very expensive. The expenses are mounting: place for Jo to stay, rental car, gas, food for her and all of Mike's needs at the hospital. If you would like to help, it would be greatly appreciated. If you cannot financially help, you can join all of their family and friends in our prayers for them. Any words of encouragement you would like to share would be wonderful for Jo and she will share with Mike who is no longer being sedated (BIG Praise!!). If you were to meet them you would find Jo has such a big heart and a very southern drawl that you would become best buds in a few minutes. Mike would mutter something at you, shake his head and walk on "“ he's had to put up with Jo & my antics for many years so we just get a lot of head shaking from him. :0)
