Byers Family: In Memory of Adley Mae

Update:
With a heavy heart I wanted to inform everyone that Joice and Bobby had to say goodbye to their angel today. Adley Mae showed such strength through these difficult weeks and I believe that she would want us to be inspired by her fight, living our best lives possible and showing kindness to those around us.

We will remember Adley Mae’s smile and the joy she gave us all on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home - 1700 Normal Park Dr. Huntsville, TX 77340.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the family here. As many of you know, both Joice and Bobby spent these last several weeks living by the side of Adley Mae in PICU at the Texas Children’s Hospital and so I hope this fund can lend them a hand financially.

If you have questions about the memorial or the Byers family, please contact me (you can send a message on here or FB) as Joice, Bobby, and their families take the time to heal.

Thank you everyone, and please remember to love each other, everyday.

Original Post:
Sweet little Adley Mae was born in August 2017 and is already battling for her life. She’s tough and has an awesome Mom and Dad and that will be a huge part of her beating a liver disease that many may not have heard of before, Biliary Artesia (BA). There is no known cause to BA and the only treatment is a Kasai Procedure and a liver transplant (which many who get the Kasai still have to undergo). This battle will take at least a year, will involve a steady decline of health, medication, inpatient care, and eventually a liver transplant. And even thereafter, Little Adley will need to continue monitoring her health throughout her life. For more information on BA, see: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biliary_atresia and https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/liver-disease/biliary-atresia

I’ve known Adley’s Mom for more than 20 years. She is the best mom. In fact, I’ve watched her take care of everyone around her since the day I met her. Adley’s Dad is just as amazing, always has a smile on his face and is truly the most honest, kind, and supportive dad Adley needs. Adley also has a team of amazing doctors at the Texas Children’s Hospital who have dedicated their lives to fighting this disease. With them, along with the support of family and friends, little Adley WILL beat this.

While Mom and Dad are doing everything they can, this disease means Mom can’t return to work and Dad has to take a lot of time off. There will be financial difficulties that I wish they did not have to think about at an already difficult time. Some of the costs they have to bear include:

$8,000 - out of pocket medical costs including deductibles, co-pays/co-insurance, testing/labs, pre and post transplant costs, follow up care and rehabilitation, medication

$9,000 - accommodation near the hospital during Adley’s in-patient treatment, travel to appointments, meals

$14,000 - unpaid living costs from lost wages (Mom can’t work but the bills still need to be paid)

Please consider gifting something to Adley and her Mom and Dad to help them along in this battle. Even the smallest contribution could add up to a huge relief for this family. Thank you, Angels!
