Help John Beat Cancer

Our friend and talented Brooklyn based artist John Ensor Parker was diagnosed with Stage 4 Follicular Lymphoma in 2016. Since then he has been fighting with two rounds of chemotherapy treatment and an autologous bone marrow transplant. Despite all his efforts the cancer returned and he has now been in the hospital at Sloan Kettering for over 10 weeks. He is scheduled to undergo an Allogeneic bone marrow transplant February 14th. Unlike the autologous transplant which used his own stem cells, the new Allogeneic transplant uses stem cells from a donor and although it is carries heavy risks, there is a 70% chance of it being curative.
Post transplant John will have a brand new immune system, but recovery is slow. He will be in the hospital for six weeks, followed by two months in special housing near the hospital. During this time, he is required to have 24/7 caregiving. Afterward, if things go well, he will be home, on a special diet, won’t be able to go out in public, his energy levels will be very low and he will make frequent visits to the doctor.
John has a strong will to live, is determined to keep fighting and we want to help any way we can. We are setting up this fund to cover his out of pocket medical, caregiving, living and travel expenses. He hasn’t been able to work in the past year and won’t be back to work until he recovers, which doctors say is about a year to full recovery. Of course, John is determined to get back to work as soon as possible. He has to remain in New York City for the transplant and recovery, due to proximity to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, but also because of state health insurance limitations. This adds to the financial burden of increased living expenses in NYC.
Battling a disease like cancer has a huge emotional component to it and having strong community support will truly mean a world to John! So thank you so much for considering donation!
