SUPPORTS VICTIMS OF THE POLICE BRUTALITY AND CIVIL UNREST IN NIGERIA.
We are the Nigerian diaspora, calling out to all members and allies for human rights to speak out against police brutality. Our people, our young generation, they are being killed and we won't stand from it. This has sparked the biggest civil movement in the country's modern history. The #EndSars movement refers to the dissolution of the "Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS)", put in place to protect civilians from Armed Robbers. Instead, they extort, harass, attack and kill innocent Nigerians. They profile youth with nice cars, nice clothes, for simply having an iPhone or laptop, assuming that they partake in fraud and engage in crime. When there is little evidence for this accusation, they often arrest anyway and falsify allegations just to extort what they can from these innocent youth.
So far, Nigerian youth began peaceful protesting on October 8th to end this unit once and for all. There have been promises made by the government since 2017 to dissolve this unit and yet still in 2020. The protests, while anchored on the dissolution of SARS, is also asking for an accountability in governance. So far 10 protestors have been killed, according to Amnesty International, many more have been injured. Homes are being raided, protestors lives and safety is at stake. Still government has not shown evidence of giving into the demands of the people: 1) Immediate release of all arrested protestors. 2) Justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families. 3) Setting up an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of Police misconduct. 4) In line with police act, psychological evaluation and retaining (to be confirmed by an independent body) of all disbanded SARS officers before they can be redeployed and 5) Increase Police salary so that they are adequately compensated for protecting lives and property of citizens
This Gofundme campaign is in support of the multiple victims on ground, suffering from the aftermath of protests, violence, looting, across the nation. This fundraiser also serves as a bridge for those who are unable to contribute directly to the cause. Proceeds will be distributed to verified and vetted grassroots organizations, such as LifeBank , Feminist Co , MedSaf, Kokun Foundation , and others, that are dedicated to meeting the needs of the protesters and the movement. A full transparency report, including where we received donations from and proof of fund deposited to said organizations, will be shared with all donors via email and publicly on our social media accounts.

To be a Nigerian in the diaspora is to have an almost irrational amount of pride because we have "the best of both worlds". It also means our authenticity or allegiance to either side is often questioned. More recently, we have realized that to be a Nigerian in the diaspora is to also have our hearts in two places at once and to fight with the same vigor for injustices in the two lands we call home.

Medical aid and Ambulances for injured victims
Food, water, and sustenance for those displaced in the civil unrest
Legal aid for the wrongfully arrested
Security for first responders on ground
How the funds will be transferred:
We are handling all the bank (and cryptocurrency) transfers for the verified and vetted organizations that we identify (so far listed and linked above as LifeBank, Feminist Co, MedSaf). We are in contact with each organization and have informed them of this fundraiser. A full transparency report, including where we received donations from and proof of fund deposited to said organizations, will be shared with all donors via email and publicly on our social media accounts.

1. What is the purpose of this group? To use our position as youth in the diaspora to galvinze non-Nigerians and older diasporans towards the ongoing movement of ending police brutality in Nigeria. We are standing in gap and pooling more resources outside the Nigerian network. This includes student orgs in universities, churches and religious groups, corporations, and international news media.
2. Who are the organizers? We are Nigerian graduate students and young professionals based in the United States.
3. Why not direct link to on-ground organizations? Many people in the diaspora want to donate but have not been able to because of the payment hurdles and with orgs on ground. Our goal is not to detract from any existing fundraising, please donate wherever you are able to. We exist to be a bridge in this movement, creating more ways for more groups to support the same cause.
4. Where is the money going? How will it reach the organizations? This campaign is in support of the multiple protests on ground, across the nation, and the organizations fighting for that cause. We will handle all the bank (and cryptocurrency) transfers for the verified and vetted organizations that we identify (some of which are listed on our GoFundMe and have already been informed). A full transparency report, including where we received donations from and proof of fund deposited to said organizations, will be shared with all donors via email and publicly on our social media accounts.
5. Why $100,000? GoFundMe is the best mechanism for our mission and they require us to set a target goal. We chose an amount that we believe is achievable and impactful.
6. What is the timeline for the fundraising? We will raise for as long as possible. We anticipate the fundraising campaign will last until November. The overall movement is ongoing and the fight for justice will continue even after the protests conclude. These funds will continue to go a long way towards organizing for structural change and victim restitution. We are able to disperse funds as the needs arise, we are not required wait until the 100k goal is met. Exhaustive weekly updates regarding such will be provided.
