Help with the unexpected

On August 12, Tom was told his secret clearance was denied. We are appealing their decision since it was based off of poor situations 5 years ago. As of September 18, Tom is put on a non-pay status at his employer until the appeal the process is over. This came to us completely unexpectedly. We are now being told he cannot cash in any of his pto during this time period as well. We live pay check to pay check and just need help to get us by for the next few weeks until his appeal process is over. I did file with unemployment, but they require his job to clarify his non pay status, and we are told that can take 7-10 business days. We are actively seeking temporary work, but with his next paycheck now gone, we need help immediately or face not being able to pay rent. Please help if you're able, or share too please!
