16 year old Michael McElMurray is an individual who touched the lives of people throughout the Augusta area - some people he had never even met. He lived a life of joy, excitement, fun, and kindness. And in a time where those qualities are rare, Michael is a presence that will be sorely missed.
This past Veteran’s Day weekend, Michael was involved in tragic accident while doing what he loved - riding his dirt bike. The injuries he sustained were catastrophic- rendering him “brain dead” and on off life support.
Michael fought and fought. Thousands of people across the Augusta area rallied in support of him, extending their thoughts and prayers. But earlier today, God determined that Michael had given it his all and heaven gained another angel.
While I didn’t have the pleasure of personally knowing Michael, many friends of mine did. The stories about Michael I’ve been told have impacted me deeply. I see myself. Practically the same age, Michael’s death stresses the fragility of life and that every single day, you should live a life worth living because you never know what day will be your last.
Every single day, Michael lived a life a worth living.
With the large social media platform God has graced me with, I intend to use to it for good. As Michael’s family navigates this time of sorrow, the last thing that should be on their mind is how much it’ll take to lay their son to rest and pay for his medical expenses. They have much more important thing to face and cope with right now. When I asked Michael’s mother how much would be enough to take care of everything, she told me that she couldn’t even “begin to think offer what could take care of it”. When I suggested her a goal of $20,000, she replied that it would be “more than gracious”.
We can do it. I know we can. All money raised will be donated directly to Michael’s family.
