As a couple, my husband and I have been nurturing a call to adopt another boy with Down syndrome for a decade. What started out as a curiosity, has grown into an urgent ache to move forward in the process.Through many confirmations, we feel like the time is now.
As you can see we have a large family and our decision in this process has been made as a unit. Since we had walked this path once before as parents of a child with Down syndrome, we are confident that we have what it takes to do it again. However, we find it important to keep a healthy respect of the challenges another child with special needs could bring. Our experience parenting for 19+ years would not only be a benefit to us in this scenario, but also to the adopted child. Time has taught us how to be fierce advocates, and we know how to obtain special services that a child with special needs would assuredly need.
Most of all we are doing our best to walk out our faith. We believe that, "God sets the lonely in families." Psalm 68:6 and in the words of our 11 year old daughter, "Why wouldn't we want to give someone a family? It's the best gift you could ever receive."
One of the biggest barriers to adoption is the expense. As a large, ONE INCOME family, we are not immune to this. We must avoid debt as much as possible. Will you search yourself and see if you feel lead in any way to donate any amount of funding towards our efforts.
We MUST have the first $7,600.00 within weeks of submitting our formal application which is done and ready to go! This money will get us up to the point where we can start applying for some grants which we are in hopes of receiving but have no guarantees.
The following is the expected fee schedule as we know it, and how it will be spent.

Total Expected Fees $20,405 - $23,305
Adoption Agency Fees
Formal application: $550 (due upon submission)
Home Study: $1900 (due when home study begins)
Program Fee 1: $5150 (due when home study is completed or a couple weeks afterwards)
THIS GETS US UP TO THE $7,600.00 WE MUST HAVE BEFORE WE CAN APPLY FOR ANY GRANTS THAT WE MAY/ MAY NOT GET!
Program Fee 2: $2750 (due when you accept a referral)
Post Placement Fees: $2000 (due when you accept a referral)
TOTAL: $12,350
Hong Kong Country Fee: $1,500.
Hong Kong Travel: $5,00-7,000. Per 2 people
Miscellaneous: $1,555.-2,455.
