I hope that as you read this page you are in great health and spirits. I am reaching out to you to gain your support & sponsorship for my Study Abroad Trip to Ghana, which is this coming Friday March 28, 2014. I am now a Senior Africana Studies Major at San Diego State and as a requirement for graduation I must complete a study abroad program in order to obtain my degree. Rather than going for a full semester, I am blessed with the opportunity to participate in the Alternative Spring Break program through the Africana Studies Department at my school. This program will allow me to travel to Ghana in West Africa while earning course credit.
This will be a life changing experience for me that will help me develop as an individual and allow me to get in touch with my roots in Africa that were so severely fractured as our ancestors took the trip to America unwillingly on ships through the middle passage. Experiencing this trip will give me a more profound sense of the extraordinary past that I come from, and who I can become in the future.
The trip will be March 28th 2014 through April 8th 2014.
In the words of Langston Hughes, "Life for me ain't been no crystal stair." My mother and I are not fortunate enough to be able to fund the trip alone. The ancient saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. In the same respect it takes a Village to fund a child and with your sponsorship and the sponsorship of others, I know we can make this trip a reality. I'd like to thank you for your time, consideration, and Sponsorship. It is greatly appreciated. If you cannot help financially, please forward to someone whom you think would like to help a young brotha out, or send up a prayer for me!
