Get Odin Back On All Four Paws

On the 7th of November little Odin seemed sore after playing with two larger dogs. Overnight that soreness developed into neurological symptoms involving his back legs and severe pain. After a trip to the vet that following morning determined likely has a slipped disc and that the next 12hrs would be critical. Sadly, his condition continued to deteriorate throughout the day to the point he was not able to stand on his back legs and had only limited feeling in his toes. We took him that night to an emergency/speciality vet in Nashville to start him on more aggressive pain management and have a CT scan done to determine the extent of the problem with his spine. The prognosis is as good as we could have hoped for given an injury of this nature. They have given him better than 90% chance he’ll walk again if they can get the internal pressure off of his spinal cord. That requires the removal of a piece of bone form his vertebra. Odin was the first thing I got right as an adult when I adopted him from a shelter in NE Washington DC. He was abused, adopted, returned to the shelter, and finally came home with me to star his new life within his first year of life. He is as true a military brat as any. He has stuck with me through deployments, TDYs, 3 PCSs, and over 10k miles as my road trip copilot. If you know him, you know he is the cuddle champion of the dog world. He’s never quit on me and I’ll never quit on him. Odin’s surgery happening in the next few hours is $6,000. While we are very optimistic he will return to his old spunk, even if we don’t get the results we want we’ll carry him up the stairs for the rest of his life as long as he’s comfortable and not in pain. There is no price on life. While we’ll be the ones physically carrying him up the stairs during his recover, any help in lightening that load isn’t expected, but, would truly be a blessing.
