Type 1 Diabetes...The Blessing in it!

To all of our family and friends who encouraged us to start this page we want to say thank you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

This has most certainly been a journey. January 2013 our life as we knew it immediately changed at what we thought would be a quick doctors visit to find the reason for frequent night time potty visits. For 6 1/2 years I woke up every morning thanking God for a healthy child only to hear the doctor say "You are all very lucky that Kiara is still here". Her sugar tested at 890! The average for a child her age should be 85-150. Diagnosis -Type 1 Diabetes.  We were instantly rushed to the hospital where all of the pricking and prodding began. Countless insulin injections, coupled with tons of lab work quickly became our norm. This was a storm that I could only wish would pass, but it just wasn't going to. Fast forward to now. We have learned so much, been touched by so many amazing little lives who are walking the same journey as Kiara and seed God move in such phenomenal ways. We've met mothers and fathers whose  faith and strength truly could move mountains and we've also been so engulfed with love from family and friends that our hearts some days can barely even take it. The toughest part about Type 1 Diabetes is that no day nor moment is ever the same. It's completely unpredictable. Kiara's sugar can go from crazy high to dangerously low in the matter of seconds. Because of this we have chosen to utilize the latest technology in hopes that it will bring more safety to Kiara, less sleepless nights for all of us and overall just a little more peace of mind. Unfortunately, going into this we were not expecting to be faced with the challenge of needing to pay for it 100% out of pocket. I mean that's why we have good insurance on Kiara isn't it?! The bad news is that we have not yet met our deductible so the meter is going to cost us $2,000 out of pocket. Unfortunately we were not prepared for that. I am overwhelmed by everyone's desire to help and hope that as we continue to post about our journey you will find a little encouragement along the way.  No matter how bad things look, we all have so much to be grateful for. Any donations towards helping us reach our goal for Kiara would be greatly appreciated.  God bless
