Help get Jake home!

Tax deductible
Jake, the handsome tabby cat, has had a string of bad luck. Like so many cats that cross our path (Island Cat Resources & Adoption), many are abandoned pets and Jake's story began the same way. After being abandoned at about 1 year of age on Alameda Point (old Naval Air Station), Jake found a regular food source and a covered porch for the next 3 years thanks to an elderly man living in the old Naval housing. Sadly, Jake's caretaker passed away earlier this year leaving Jake hungry and once again looking for someone to care about him. Island Cat volunteer Deanne Jarvis scooped him up and Jake's future looked brighter. Soon after, Louise and her family arrived in Alameda from New Zealand. They were here for the summer. Louise's husband was part of one of the America's Cup sailing teams. Their family love cats and so decided to foster while they were here until September. Son, Oliver, chose the cat and he chose Jake to foster! Lucky Jake!!! He beat out adorable little fluffy kittens! Oliver connected with Jake that Saturday June afternoon and the bond grew tight throughout the summer. [See photos below.] The whole family fell in love with Jake and began researching the possibility of taking Jake home to New Zealand. Sadly, the cost was beyond what Jake's foster family could afford. And, while Jake would do anything to get back with his loving foster family, he is not willing to sail there so we want to pull out all the stops to raise the funds to fly Jake to New Zealand. Not an easy task given that the total costs (lots of rules, regs, and hoops to jump through) which all add up to a hefty but not impossible sum of over $3,000. Jake has waited so long for a family that will love him and give him a permanent home forever! Will you help us get Jake to his family in New Zealand?

Hi Merry, Just thought I'd let you know that Jake has settled in fine. He did spend the first afternoon and night mostly under Oliver's bed, only coming out for short periods of time to eat a small amount, and once to play a bit with Oliver. But he spent most of the next day exploring and cuddling us. And has done so ever since.

He even spent his second night sleeping under the duvet of our bed, and spent last night on top of Oliver's bed.

He is a darling little man, and we love him dearly already.

Regards,
Louise

Hi Merry,
Since Artemis was knocked out of the race, our leave date has suddenly been put forward about a month earlier than originally expected.
We have priced taking Jake with us to NZ, and sadly, it is considerably beyond our budget.
We will miss the little fellow immensely, he has really begun being a part of our family in the last few weeks, and adores Oliver
tremendously. You would not recognize him being the same timid cat that came into our life not that long ago.
