Max Needs Surgery- Hit By A Car

Hi! My name is Laura and I live in the Wausau, WI area. On Sunday evening, October 29, 2017 while driving with my mother down Grand Avenue I noticed a small group of people huddled around a dog. I immediately turned around and learned the dog had been hit by a car that had swerved to avoid hitting a child on a bike. The dog was lying on the ground shaking, unable to move, and in obvious great pain. I immediately began to administer first aid, assisted by my mother. We quickly placed a blanket under the dog and drove the dog to an emergency clinic in Mosinee, WI. Max was whimpering and shaking the entire car ride, being comforted by our soft voices and gentle petting. He would occasionally lift his head and stare at me with his blue eyes- I think he knew he was safe. Poor Max was triaged and found to have a fractured femur on his right leg and a fractured tibia on his left. The clinic in Mosinee is not able to handle such acute traumatic injuries. So, at about 8pm my mother and I drove Max to a Referral Center in Appleton, WI. The car ride to Appleton, WI was difficult in that Max was whimpering and nervous. But his cute upward glances of thanks and appreciation touched our hearts. We spoke with him and comforted him. Max is in need of a femur plating surgery. This will be completed today. His fibula will be stabilized. He has a broken toenail that will grow back and road rash that is painful, but will heal. The costs for Max’s care are high and I am asked for any help possible. So far, my mother and I have paid $3,500.00 for his care and the journey is just beginning. Any excess money raised will be donated to local animal rescues in need.
