Ashley needs our help

Doação protegida
My name is Ashley Wright. I’m 28 years old with two beautiful children, an eight year old daughter and a one year old son. I take care of my mother who undergoes Chemotherapy for cancer we’ve been battling for the past two years. While balancing all aspects of my life, I’ve worked at The Lehigh Valley Drug & Alcohol Intake Unit as the Assistant Administrator for the past four years, helping those struggling with addiction.

Recently, I have been diagnosed with a condition called Chiari Malformation. Rushing to 3 different emergency rooms within a week’s time cringing in pain with what I thought what a stiff neck, turned out to be a nightmare. Chiari Malformation is a structural defect in the base of the skull and cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls balance. Normally, the cerebellum and parts of the brain stem sit above an opening in the skull (the foramen magnum) which allows the spinal cord to pass through it. When part of the cerebellum extends below the foramen magnum and into the upper spinal canal, it is called a Chiari Malformation. Causing constant pain it has become extremely difficult for me to work a full day’s work and help others the way I would like.

Since I was diagnosed in early October I’ve been on a search for any resource or direction of help. Unfortunately, this has become extremely difficult for me to find, as my employer does not offer medical insurance and I do not qualify for government assistance. I’m limited to medical attention because my condition requires surgery. Surgery that requires time off work to recover, time I cannot afford because my family needs a roof over their head and a warm meal at night. Leaving what I love to do every day at the Intake Unit is a struggle, even knowing it’s just temporary. I find myself struggling with decisions that affect not only me, but those closest to me.

____________________________________________________________Tim Munsch, her employer, writes,
Ashley has been the Administrative Assistant at Lehigh Valley Drug and Alcohol Intake Unit for the past five years.  In her position she sees individuals at the worst point of their lives, they are over come by their addiction and in need of help.  Ashley is always empathetic and willing to listen, she goes out of her way to provide answers and direction.  She often will find beds for individuals that are desperately in need of detoxification.  She has helped thousands of individuals in her position and provided them with the first step on their road to recovery.  She now finds herself in a position that she needs help from others.  I am writing this because I have seen her do a remarkable job in helping others and she finds it very difficult to ask for this help.  Please make it a point to provide whatever you can to assist Ashley as she has assisted so many others.

Financial assistance from others will help Ashley and her two children through the difficult next few months as she has surgery to correct the malformation as well as suppert her in her recovery. As she has helped countless others in the beginning of their journey in recovery, we too need to rally to help Ashley in her journey. Please consider making a donation. Every donation matters and any amount helps. Thank you for reading Ashley's story and donating!
