In January 2013 my mom was afflicted with Guillain Barre Syndrome , Miller Fisher variant; her immune system attacked her nervous system leaving her completely paralyzed. She was on a ventilator for a month and a feeding tube in the hospital for two months. For more details about my mom's story through my eyes you can read my blog (specifically look at the entries from Feb. 2013-April 2013). By the grace and miracle of God my mom is still with us.
This year my mom applied for a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France with the Knights of Malta. Lourdes is the site where Mary, the Mother of God, appeared to a 14 year old girl named Bernadette in 1858 who was later canonized a saint in the Catholic Church. Since then there have been thousands of miracles (71 officially acknowledged by the Church) due to the intercession of The Blessed Mother to her Son, Jesus. Again, by His grace, on the day of the Easter Vigil, my mom was accepted to go on the trip!
Every year the Knights of Malta, a charitable religious order dating to the 16th century, offers a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France for those who are very sick and hoping for spiritual and physical healing. Since my mom was accepted they will pay her way. However, the Knights encourage a caregiver to come with her and that is not paid. The caregiver who will be going with my mom is my dad. It is very important that both of my parents go on this pilgrimage because he knows the ins and outs of her condition. I pray that this pilgrimage will also be a healing experience for him since, as her caregiver, he also experienced a lot of trauma.
Due to my mom's medical fees and the interruption
of her career, we need your help. All in all, the pilgrimage will cost $4,000. All the money goes to the Knights of Malta for the trip. The $4,000 is all inclusive. Anything you can offer will be very much appreciated. We need the funds as soon as possible. The pilgrimage will be in May 2018.
As a small gesture of thanks on our part, my mom and dad are more than happy to take your prayer intentions with them to Lourdes. Just leave them as a comment and we will write them down and they will take them to give to God through Mary for you.
