Help save our Burlington community!

Our neighbourhood needs you and your neighbours' support.  If successful, our efforts will help the City of Burlington which we love ❤️and the residents within it live, move, play and work.  It could possibly do the same in the community in which you live.  As one of the many long established neighbourhoods in Burlington, we are facing a higher intensity development being built on a currently vacant property within our neighbourhood.  The developer is attempting to build 20 townhomes on a very small parcel of land opening up a cul-de-sac in an established neighbourhood where only single story detached homes exist.  This proposal will greatly impact existing adjacent residents but also residents across Burlington.  If this proposal is allowed it will set a precedent for the next infill development in the city!

We have spoken up whenever any new development is to be built to keep our neighbourhood (1) safe for our children, (2) allow us to keep enjoying our own quiet properties; and, (3) still fit in within the existing residential housing.  Many previous examples of this better planned housing exists around our neighbourhood yet an alarming change is now happening.

Despite the neighbourhood's most devoted efforts to participate in the planning process, decisions are being made for higher intensity developments that are taking over our beloved Burlington. Numerous other neighbourhoods have faced this same situation and have spoken up to no avail; this is the second appeal being taken to LPAT in the last couple months.  Like many of you, our concerned neighbours are tired of no longer feeling heard.

Recently, our appeal of the proposed development to the new Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) was found to be valid.  This has added legitimacy to our concerns.  Within a short time, we have to prepare documents under this new appeal process so fundraising is necessary for professional help through a lawyer and a planner.  It is also a new learning process to those who are appealing such decisions, so should we get to go through it, we will be able to let others know of our insights.

The 23+ neighbours who have signed on are worried by processes that are now appearing unfair and unequal.  It takes time and personal finances for citizens to bring their voices forward.  Your financial support will make sure these voices continue to be heard.  This is not just about the Official Plan, intensification, infill, and established neighbourhoods.  It is about sustaining our city for the future through having our voices heard now.  It is about how the people of Burlington want to participate in the decision-making that is currently developing our Burlington.

This neighbourhood is committed to preserve public participation.  We are working hard not to let this change take place by continuing with this appeal. To all Burlingtonians, our neighbours and friends and those who believe in the participation of citizens in the future of their community, please support us with $1, $10 or $100 or however much you are able to give.  These funds will be used to bring together those who are needed to participate in the new appeal process so we can ensure that the residents continue to be heard.  We the neighbourhood are trying to maintain the best of Burlington  for our children today and for future residents.

Your financial help would assist us in this next step.  Any extra and unneeded funds that may be raised will be donated to any other group that may find themselves in the same situation.

Our neighbourhood sincerely thanks you for your support,
