Sebastian's Journey

In the early morning hours of October 13, 2017, Roxy Peters' water broke. She was only 23 weeks along in her pregnancy. She and her husband, Darryl, rushed to Steinbach hospital, and were quickly sent via ambulance to the HSC Women's Hospital in Winnipeg. After a series of difficult options layed out by their doctors, Darryl and Roxy settled on inducing and delivering their baby naturally, the best option for both the baby and mom. At 4:23PM, Sebastian Luke Peters, entered the world early at 23 weeks gestation, weighing just 1lb 4oz. It was later determined, that Roxy had developed an infection, which spread to baby, causing the early delivery. His due date was February 6, 2018.

While Sebastian is very tiny, he is a fighter. He has had a severly bruised arm due to the delivery, a collapsed lobe in his lung, a brain bleed on each side, several tests, ultrasounds, even a surgery to better support his vitals, and he is only 10 days old.

Through this time, Darryl and Roxy want to be by Sebastian's side, as he grows to the point that they can take him home, which may be many months from now. Darryl is the sole income provider for the family, and has decided to take paternity leave, to be with his wife and child for the next few months up to one year. This alone, can cause financial stress for the family, which they should not have to worry about during this critical time.
