Jamie's Going to Jamaica!!

If you know me at all, you know that I have a slight hoarding problem. I hold on to almost every birthday card, note, school picture and concert ticket in boxes under my bed and open them up every now and then to reflect on how amazing these past 19.5 years of my life have been. Yet one of my most favorite memories cannot be contained in a box of things.
When I graduated from my senior year of high school, I embarked on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic alongside 60 high school students where we built three houses for three incredibly deserving families. After four of the most physically draining days of my life, we had finished building our house. We gathered in a circle in the backyard and after saying a few words to the family, presented the key to 'Papa.' With shaking hands, he opened the door to his new home, his family of five eagerly waiting behind. We watched as his family filed in behind him and as he closed the door, we waited once more for our leader to knock to be let in to their brand new home. When he opened the door to our team of 20 workers, he burst into tears, thanking us over and over again. 'Mama' hugged each and every one of us while their children ran throughout the house, admiring their bed they would share and the roof overhead. There was no way I could ever summarize this moment on paper or take enough pictures to fill a box.
When I graduated high school, I never imagined I would find the same opportunity through my collegiate years at Mizzou. Fortunately, I've been blessed with the awesome opportunity to travel to Harmons, Jamaica during my winter break to serve alongside 59 other awesome Greek students from Mizzou. Harmons, Jamaica is an extremely impoverished area with an 80% unemployment rate. This area needs the same hope and love that my team provided when I traveled to the Domincan Republic almost two years ago. We will be building houses as well as visiting an infirmary and building meaningful relationships with the Jamaicans. The excitement I have for this trip honestly cannot be put into words but I need awesome folks like you to make this trip a reality.
In order to attend, I need to raise $1,550. This money goes towards supplies, accommodations, travel costs, and lodging through an organization called Won by One (For more information, check out their website www.wonbyonetojamaica.com). Donations can be made online through this page I've created or by checks (Write them out to Won by One and it's tax deductible!) which can be sent to my school address 908 Curtis Avenue Columbia, MO. 65201 OR given to my parents so I can pick them up when I return for Thanksgiving and Winter Break.
I also need to collect 120 pounds of clothing and supplies that we will leave in Harmons for the Jamaicans and would appreciate support in this way as well. And finally, and most importantly, I would greatly appreciate your prayers and support. The power of prayer is incredibly strong and I know that with the help of my friends and family, this trip can become a reality.
