Scott & Sandy Laughman Harvey Relief

My name is Rich Draper and I recently discovered that some good friends of mine, Scott and Sandy Laughman, had their home destroyed beyond repair during Hurricane Harvey.

I am reposting this again after having received a message last evening that our dear friend and brother Scott Laughman has passed away. If everyone could please keep sharing information regarding this go fund me account with everyone and anyone that you can. Sandy will continue to need help more now so than ever. I was told Scott passed away at home surrounded by his family and loved ones. . .


I am updating this go fund me account and trying to get the word out to as many people as possible because the situation has taken a turn for the worse. Along with having their home destroyed beyond repair Scott Laughman has been battling cancer and his battle has taken a turn for the worse. He is currently at home under hospice care and he is not expected to live much longer.

When I heard about the situation I reached out to the Laughman’s and their grandchildren and discovered that their home had been completely flooded in over 3 feet of raw sewage water during the storm. The home needs to be torn downp. (without the aid of insurance) Anyone who has ever known the Laughman's know that they are some of the kindest, most giving people on the face of Gods earth. I personally would love to see the community as a whole, all of Scott Laughman's past scouts and anyone who has ever known the Laughman's pitch in to help with whatever they can in raising funds to help them with their home. Scott Laughman spent many years as a dedicated scoutmaster working with dozens and dozens of young men throughout the years. I worked with Scott in the Scouting program for a short period of time and soon learned what a great man he was, with a huge heart and just how dedicated he was to helping "His Boys". Sandy Laughman has spent her entire life helping "The Poor" in every way imaginable. Sandy Laughman has recently retired and Scott has reached the age of retirement but continued to work hard even while fighting this horrible battle with cancer. I cannot imagine Sandy having to spend the next 20 years paying off even a small mortgage after all they have done and given to everyone around them for so many years. Scott was diagnosed with cancer early in 2017 and not only have they had to deal with the loss of their home and all of its contents, but they've had to do so amidst the many trips for chemo therapy and everything that accompanies a severe battle with cancer. And now for them to discover that his cancer has so damaged his lungs beyond hope of survival has been an absolutely devastating blow. These two wonderful people would never reach out and ask for help on their own, so I have taken it upon myself to create this go fund me page and am imploring anyone who is able to help in anyway to please donate and help The Laughman's replace their home without the burden of a 20 year mortgage. I am setting a goal to raise $30,000, which would be enough for them to replace their home with a manufactured home. Please friends and family let's all REACH DEEP and give back to two people who have given more to us than could ever be accounted for. The Laughman's are extremely independent and self-reliant and this is probably the only opportunity any of us will ever have to give back to them.
