Veronica's Quality of Life Fund

Donation protected
My sister-in-law, Veronica Garcia Demerse was diagnosed with colon cancer when she was 33 years old, in July of 2011. She has three beautiful children. At the time, Alyssa was 13 years old, Gabriel was ten years old and Samantha had just turned one year old.

She got the devastating news that she would survive one year with chemotherapy and six short months without. She started chemo almost immediately. Through the entire experience, her partner Chris has remained by her side.

At the time of her diagnosis, Veronica was living in Arizona and her parents came out every other week to accompany her to chemo treatments. After several months of this routine, it became financially stressful for these trips to continue occurring. It was decided by all that it would be best for Veronica, Chris and the children to move back to California and live with her parents while continuing treatment. Veronica continued her chemotherapy treatments for about a year and half after returning to California.

After undergoing chemo for so long, her health has inevitably deteriorated even more. Enduring the treatments for years, she no longer had as much energy to spend the same valuable time with her family and especially her children. Veronica made the decision to choose quality over quantity and went into hospice care in September of 2013. Veronica's health continues to deteriorate and she is bedridden for approximately 20 hours per day. A nurse now visits her in her home every three days or so. Her oxygen levels fluctuate and her abdomen has ascended from the fluids building from her liver. The doctors and nurses are working together to keep her alive through hopefully, Christmas. We want her to continue creating substantial memories with her children in her final days. After Veronica passes, the children will remain in the care of their grandparents.

Any monies raised will be used for final expenses and to alleviate some of the financial burden being that my mother-in-law has dedicated her time to caring for Veronica and her children rather than working outside of the home. Thank you for any and all support and contributions.
