Volunteering in Cambodia

Hi. My name is Shenoa, I have just booked a trip to Cambodia where I am going to be volunteering in an orphanage for 2 weeks from 16 Dec 2013.

Cambodia has an incredibly high number of orphans comparative to population. Many children have lost their parents due to HIV, while other parents cannot provide food, accommodation and education for their children. Cambodia's cost of living is so cheap by our standards, and yet the majority of the locals live in a state of poverty that most of us couldn't imagine - kids live in rubbish dumps, people live on less than $1 per day, 70% of the population don't have access to clean water, 1 in 8 kids die of a preventable disease before the age of 5, many kids aren't given a name until their first birthday - just in case.

I am hoping that in a small way, this trip will make a difference to a few kids lives. Doing something is better than turning our backs and doing nothing at all right? And I'm asking for you to help.

Volunteers are placed where the most volunteer support is needed at the time and volunteers are ultimately assigned with the projects that will benefit both the volunteer and the local organisation.

I will be in Cambodia for 2 weeks, volunteering Monday to Friday and staying in a shared Volunteer House while I'm there.

I am hoping to raise funds to assist in getting me there and/or at least to buy basics once I'm there (supporting the local community) to give to the kids - things like toothpaste, toothbrushes, books, first aid items etc.
