After nine years of practicing and developing the craft of photography--I have finally decided to produce my first solo show which will take place on Saturday, January 18th, 2014.

I spent my childhood marveling at the iconic images my late great-uncle Reggie produced. With his gifting of my first camera, I set out to achieve the same quality and storytelling abilities that he possessed. After seeing black bodies objectified and exploited (i.e. Robert Mapplethorpe's "The Black Book"), Black culture appropriated and repackaged (rock-n-roll, fashion, science), devalued and discarded (Trayvon Martin, the prison industrial complex)--I have dedicated my art to reclaiming black beauty.

Through various encounters, projects, personal grieving and media, I have been reminded that the constant blend of, and at times, clash of vulnerability, power, resilience, courage, creativity and innovation is one that perpetually keeps our culture frequently sought after, duplicated, examined and scrutinized. With this show I intend to delve into the various aspects of disparate (not desperate) black life through portraiture, collage and performance.

The money for this show will assist in the photographing, printing, installation & venue costs. I am shooting the entire show on medium format film. I envision large prints installed creatively throughout the room avoiding the traditional wall hangings. I have the honor of working on this show with New York based curator, Jessica Lynne, therefore some of these funds will be allocated to her plane ticket to Los Angeles for our opening. Any excess money will go towards bringing this show to New York after it's LA debut.

Please assist me in reaching this goal! I would greatly appreciate my team, family, friends, tribe, clients, strangers and fellow artists for supporting me in this endeavor!

Now we push right past to find out
How to win what they all lost.

We know now we want more
A life worth fighting for."
