Hello, my name is Jermande Lewis. You can call me Jae. I am a senior at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, OK.  I was always active and love to play soccer.  I will miss going to school and playing soccer. Now my focus has changed from being an active teenager to fighting for my life.
I have been diagnosed with a disease called PNH(paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria), which is a rare blood disorder that causes your red blood cells to not produce. I get blood and platelet transfusions regularly and I am currently on a medication called solaris which is suppose to regulate my blood levels. but it is not working. Since the medication is not working I will have to have a bone marrow transplant. My family and I recently found out that my younger sister is a match for the bone marrow transplant. The procedure will take place at OU Children's hospital in Oklahoma city in November.  After surgery my sister will be able to go home, but I will have to stay at the Oklahoma Children's Corral in Oklahoma City for 100+ days where I will be monitored and treated for possible side effects. This is a difficult time for my family and I as we figure out living arrangements for my mom and siblings. We had insurance with United but with the bills getting so high I am not covered from July thru October. My mom has always worked and provided for her family, but my sickness has really put a financial burden on her. She has used all of her days off from FMLA so I really don't know if she will even have a job when all of this treatment is over from taking off work to be with me. We have never had to ask for  help and it is not easy to ask for help now.  I am wanting to raise money to help take some of the stress off of my mother.
