Helping A Fallen Rider And Her Kids

Cheryl Porter is a single mother of 2 daughter and is the only income provider for her family.  She loves riding her motorcycle and enjoys spending time with family and friend.

Her daughter Tatum Porter and soon to be mother was recently interviewed by the "Woodstock Sentinel"

It was the worst nightmare the young mother-to-be could ever imagine.

“This is my worst fear and it has come true,” said Tatum Porter, whose mother is recovering in hospital following a horrific motorcycle crash. “Bikes are hard to see so just pay attention. The thoughts of losing her scares me to no end.”

On Tuesday, Sept 26 Porter had lunch with her mother Cheryl Porter, who then accompanied her to a medical appointment at the hospital.

“A couple hours after lunch I got the call that she was in an accident,” Porter said.

The 40-year-old Woodstock woman was flown to a London hospital with serious injuries following a collision last Tuesday afternoon while driving her Harley-Davidson motorcycle down Parkinson Road to a friend’s home.

According to a Woodstock police, a 20-year-old woman was headed west on Parkinson Road and was making a left turn into a business when the crash occurred around 4:30 p.m.

Porter sustained a shattered kneecap, minor bleeding in her brain, a fracture in her neck, a broken foot and two black eyes.

“Her face was swollen so she couldn’t open her eyes,” Porter said.

The night of the crash Porter said her mother kept repeating to her family: “I’m a good rider.”

“She just kept saying it over and over again…and she truly is,” her daughter said. “What she did, saved her life.”

Porter said it has been very difficult for her to watch her mother go through what will likely be another six weeks in hospital, some permanent knee injuries and a long recovery process.

“But she is such a strong woman, I know she can do it,” she said.

Porter is just one of several riders that have been severely hurt or killed in what appears to have been an especially dangerous summer for motorcycle riders in the region.

My mother is a strong.  Through this whole ordeal my mother's biggest fear is for us, her daughters and not her.  She worries about the house and not being able to pay the bills, care for us and her soon to be grandchild.

My mom will get through this and with your help will be able to work on her recovery and not worry about her bills and how she is going to pay for everything.

Please help and contribute to Cheryl's fund, your generosity and contribution won't be forgotten.

Thank you for caring and taking your time to help.
