Nick’s Sports Bar’s Resurrection

Early Friday morning, September 29, Nick’s Sports Bar had a small electrical fire that turned into a fiery inferno. A full-on attempt was made by the fire department to save Nicks bar but in the end the entire building was burnt to a crisp.

“Nick’s” has always been a family owned and operated business by Nick Papafote; an amazing Houston native. Many of us grew up with Nick and his family and for decades found a comfort in just being around them as well as spending time at Nicks Sports Bar.

Nick’s has been a favorite spot for so many people who have been going there for over 20 years.  Whether it is to see a band, play a game of pool, poker night, to play darts, or to
honor the amazing crawfish that gave their lives on certain weekends or to just hang out with Nick and some great people.
The bar’s biggest following is from his Green Bay Packer fans. Nick’s has been the home to the Green Bay Packer’s Cheddar Pack of Houston for 18 years.  

Due to a gap in insurance coverage the total loss resulting from the fire will be carried by Nick alone.
The immediate loss of a sustainable income is huge for him and his family and it is already being felt. It is this for reason, we, as his friends have started this page.

Inherently it is not found in our nature to ask for help. It’s difficult to know why but I do know it is one of our most amazing human traits. A gift maybe. I believe it’s what sets us apart and is a fabric of what and who we are; that we can make it alone. In that same fashion I also know it’s inherent in many, if not all of us, to reach out and help a friend up. In the end it may be what defines all of us, reaching out and helping. Even if the friend were to never ask. I’ve known Nick basically my whole life. Nick has never asked.

We are all on different paths. Many of us will never meet. We will never see each other on the street, we won’t see each other’s kids and families grow, see a ball game together, visit at a coffee shop or hang out at an awesome local sports bar but I believe our paths do cross here today, as you read these words we in a way, come together in helping our friend Nick and his family and the amazing people that work with him, rebuild.
The outpouring of encouragement and support has been overwhelming.

This page has been set up by his friends and family to help him with the expenses to rebuild the bar.
 Many people have asked how they can help with this tragic life event. This is the best way we saw to help him get back on his feet and get the doors open once again.
We can only thank everyone for their help.
