Natalie’s Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On Saturday January 12 Natalie’s mom Nicole was expecting some company. She lit a candle and went into the bathroom to finish getting ready. A couple minutes later Natalie came running into the bathroom screaming... fully engulfed in flames. Nicole was able to get the fire out and call 911. Natalie was life flighted to Boston Children’s hospital where she underwent several procedures including one called aloegrafting. This is where they cut back all of her burns to healthy tissue and apply cadaver skin. She received a blood transfusion during her surgery but she will probably need another at some point tomorrow. She is in an extreme amount of pain and has had a difficult recovery from this procedure.
Last night they transferred from Mass General to Shriners which has been a huge transition. At the new hospital they have had to meet with a whole new team and go over everything again. This process has been very hard with the amount of pain Natalie has been in. She hasn't been able to rest today which is making recovery more difficult. It has been non stop meeting with every doctor, surgeon, and specialist that needs to be involved.
Due to the extra fluids given today she has now developed a condition called wet lung and they have been battling with her oxygen levels all day. She also needed to get out of bed a couple of times today which was extremely painful for her. To make matters worse she has stopped eating and may require a NG tube in the next couple of days.
Today the surgeon briefly discussed upcoming plans and it looks like it’s going to be a much longer process than they originally thought. They're now saying that she may require 3 autograft surgeries which are extremely painful and risky when it comes to infections etc. Natalie has 2nd and 3rd degeee burns on 30% of her body. They will most likely be there for a month and a half if not longer.
The amount of trauma this child has gone through is unspeakable. She was able to beat stage 4 Neuroblastoma and she’s going to beat this too. We need to come together as a village and offer as much financial support as we can. Nicole needs to be focusing on caring for Natalie not worrying about how she is going to survive and pay for everything. Every little bit helps. They are going to need all the help they can get ❤️❤️
