Normally, we're really not into the color pink. However, lately, we've started to warm up to it quite a bit, and during October, its actually really nice to see. That's because it's the color that represents breast cancer awareness. And, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
Why are we telling you all this? We work with a lovely woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Janice came to work for our organization while still undergoing chemotherapy. She lost all of her hair, and subsequently, had to have both of her breasts removed to make absolute certain the cancer was gone. As of August 2013, Janice was diagnosed cancer-free! While much of her treatment was covered by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the reconstruction surgery is not. Fortunately, her health care plan will cover the cost of surgery itself, but only after a hefty deductible is paid for out of her pocket.
Janice is a single mother, working part time right now, and yet, never complains or says anything about how she's feeling or what she's going through. She's an incredibly brave woman and a survivor, like all of those men and women who have struggled with this awful disease. There will still be recovery time, and more treatment, and doctor's visits... and all of that costs.
We, her coworkers, would like to help Janice raise the money she needs to cover her deductible and costs associated with a reconstruction surgery. No amount is too small, but what you do give, will be priceless in thanks and gratitude for your generosity!
We can all agree... cancer sucks!
And yeah, we will all be wearing a bit of pink the entire month of October in honor of Janice, and for every person who has been affected by breast cancer.
