Jamie's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
August 23, 2017 -- the day my life changed with one doctor's visit.  Jamie Hughes, my 13 year old son and youngest of 3 children, had been complaining that his knee was bothering him over the summer.  I thought it was nothing more than growing pains as he was still running, playing soccer and being a regular active teenager.  One day at school, he was playing football with a bunch o f his friends, and some how he got knocked in the knee to the point that he came home and told me it really hurt.  Since he was running Cross Country, I finally decided to get it checked out.  They took an x-ray and low and behold the diagnosis of Cancer was spoken.  Crushed, scared, sad, shock were just a few of the emotions that overwhelmed both me and Jamie.   He has been such a healthy, athletic and intelligent child -- how could this be?!   Since that day, our lives have never been the same.  We had immediate MRI's, Catscans, Bone scans, PET scans...all so foreign to both me and Jamie.  The diagnosis that he had Osteosarcoma was "officially" diagnosed and has spread throughout his body.  We have a VERY big fight ahead of us!

We have been through two chemo treatments at this point at Scottish Rite in Atlanta which were tough on Jamie but he was strong through them both.  He's a tough kid and I couldn't be more proud of him for his strength to go through this.

I made the decision to resign from my job so that I can take care of him full time which puts some financial pressure on this already stressful situation.  The outpour of support from friends, family and communities have been UNBELIEVABLE!  The dinners, the cards, the texts, the e-mails, the phone calls, the acts of kindness have kept me and my family going during this time and I cannot tell you how grateful I am to everyone!!

What's even more unbelievable, is that people want to do more for our family...what?!  Everyone has been so incredibly generous!  I was talked into setting up this GoFundMe account due to the number of people who still want to support our family.  I cannot express my gratitude enough for all of this support!

Prayers are needed first and foremost!!  So please do not feel like you "have" to donate to support our family.  Prayer for strength, prayer for healing, prayer for my other 2 children (Shannon & Conor), prayer for our medical team, prayer for those who have been so incredibly supportive to our family ... just pray for my sweet Jamie to heal!!

Thank you to all of you.  Hugs and much love!!
