Melissa's Story
My wife, Melissa has been suffering from Lyme Disease for over 5 years now. Her symptoms began in 2012, when she started having cognitive issues and numbness down the left side of her body. During the next 5 years, she experienced multiple symptoms including debilitating pain, chronic fatigue, partial paralysis, muscle spasms, seizures, migraines, cognitive issues and loss of memory. She received various diagnoses including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and suggestions that she may have ALS or MS.
After diagnosing her with degenerative disc disease and two ruptured discs in her spine they decided to do an epidural which only made her symptoms worse. She couldn't return to work and after several specialists the doctors still didn't know the cause of her symptoms.
Lyme Disease
After a year of searching for the cause of her symptoms, Melissa was officially diagnosed with Chronic Neurological Lyme Disease in 2013. She began an antibiotic treatment plan to attack the Lyme bacteria in her body. The treatments, combined with the massive cocktail of drugs she’s been taking for years, has taken a toll on her organs and immune system. Her Lyme specialist believed that the antibiotic therapy reached its full potential. She continues to experience numerous debilitating symptoms and needs to rebuild her immune system and organs in order to feel better. Her body has been a battle-ground of conflicting chemicals for years. She's tried everything possible with still no improvement.

She has maintained a steadfast positive attitude, and has given caring, compassion, and kindness to others. She has been reluctant to accept any financial help from others. Due to the unknowns surrounding the nature of Lyme Disease and the lack of a clear treatment programs, it has been difficult to identify a definite way to help her.
This campaign provides the opportunity to help Melissa accomplish a definite goal:
To see the David A. Jernigan, D.C.,B.S. at the Hansa Center. The cost of her treatment is estimated at $10-15K. With additional costs for follow-up's and after-care, our goal is to raise $20K+ for Melissa to cover all expenses. The CDC in the United States doesn’t even recognize Chronic Lyme Disease as a legitimate disease eligible for insurance coverage. Therefore, we have been paying out-of-pocket for doctor visits, specialists, antibiotics, pain killers, IV’s, supplements, physical therapy, and so on.
Melissa believes the Hansa Center will help her find relief from the debilitating symptoms that she has experienced for years, and aid on the path toward full recovery.
