Help Amanda Get to Russia!- Completed!!

Hello everyone!

My name is Amanda Wegner and I love girevoy sport!!

I first picked up a kettlebell in July of 2010 to lose weight and be more healthy. At just 19 years old and just under 300 pounds, I knew that I had to change my life if I wanted to feel better and live longer.

With a lot of hard work I lost around 80 pounds through the course in about 7 months. Then, in the spring of 2011, I attended my first kettlebell sport class with the Orange Kettlebell Club. We did a test set at the end, 8kg glove set, and I was HOOKED!

I took the IKSFA Level 1 certification in July 2011, competed for the first time in November 2011, and then unfortunately due to health issues I had to take January-August of 2012 off from girevoy sport. I was totally devastated. I gained back a lot of weight due to inability to exercise, an insatiable appetite, and lots of bad food choice.

I got the green light to exercise right when I left for St. Petersburg Russia for 3.5 months. While there I met some of the kindest, most generous people in the sport - who happen to also be some of the best lifters in the world. I competed for the second time in October 2012, then again in November 2012, in Russia. It was a truly fantastic experience to socialize and lift with some of the best lifters on the planet, who I now consider my friends. :)

Since returning to the US in December 2012 I have competed 5 more times in snatch (16kg, 20kg) and long cycle (24kg).

Outside of the sport, I am also about to finish up my BA in International Studies with a minor in Russian language, with magna cum laude distinction. I work as a girevoy sport coach at Full Throttle Athletics. I tutor Russian at the University of North Texas, and soon I'll start volunteering at the Russian School of Dallas as well as another job at On the Border. So, please trust me when I say that inability to fund this trip is not for lack of trying!!

My dream is to help develop girevoy sport in the United States to an international level, and to become professional-level translator in Russian. And, obviously, to represent the United States as part of the first national team at the World Championship in Tyumen.

Thank you very much for your time, and I appreciate any and all help that you might be able to give. I am no master but if you are a total beginner in this sport and would like a few tips on your technique, I am happy to do so as thanks for your donation.
