I work with Retha at Witham hospital in Lebanon in labor and delivery. Her husband, Clayton, has been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver caused by a viral infection; he is only 47 years old and needs a liver transplant to save his life. Retha and Clayton have been married for 26 years and have a 24 year old son. They have spent their life together helping others through Clayton's work as a pastor for over 28 years and Retha's work as a nurse. The costs of a liver transplant are catastrophic. Until this point, Retha has been working to support her family and has not asked for help. Retha and her husband face everyday with a quiet strength that can only be achieved through her faith in God to provide what they need.
I am not quiet. I am yelling at the top of my voice that it is up to us to help Clayton and Retha in their time of need. In order for Clayton to receive a transplant they need proof that the family can withstand the financial burden. The expenses are estimated to be be upwards of $50,000. These expenses include the transplant itself, the medications needed to prevent rejection, and the expense of Retha being off work to care for her husband. I am hoping with the help of my friends and coworkers that we can earn money to help this family and celebrate their faith they have shown each other and their community.
We need your help right away. To start our quest to save Clayton's life we will be having a spaghetti dinner on November 2nd from 4:30pm to 8:00pm at Trinity Lutheran church in Lebanon, IN. At the same time we will be having a bake sale and amazing items for you to bid on. We would love to see everyone there to support Clayton and Retha. If anyone has any items or services that they could donate for the bake sale or raffle it would be greatly appreciated.
