Andrew's Battle Against Melanoma

Donation protected
Andrew's family and friends have asked how to offer their support since they learned that on February 22, 2016, he is suffering from another, possibly terminal, battle with his ongoing war against metastatic melanoma.

Over the past 12 years  Andy has undergone multiple surgeries, treatments, and hospitalizations to fight melananoma. Each time Andy was concerned with an abnormal growth, doctors were hesitant to remove them as these never appeared like the textbook version of melanoma. Andy was always persistant to have these varying growths removed, sadly the pathology reports always confirmed melanoma. His last PET scan in December 2015 showed that the 8 growths on his lungs were no longer present. The family celebrated as the latest treatment regimen seemed to have cured him. However, while excitedly preparing for a long awaited vacation with his childhood friend, Andy became ill with what seemed to be the flu. Urgent care and ER visits led to an incidental find on an MRI that the cancer had spread to his brain and spinal cord. The prognosis for life expectancy per the doctors is 6 months.

On March 8th, 2016, Andrew suffered a major seizure and did not wake up. He was breathing on his own but he was gone...or so we thought.

2 days later, Andy's dad called and texted everyone at 3:30 in the morning, "Andy is back!" Thinking that my dad was delirious, sleep deprived, and delusional, we did not realize that God was not quite ready to take Andy from us.

Andrew is now at his home, under hospice care. He has lost vision in his right eye, motor function and sensation to his arms and legs, he cannot feed himself or get out of his hospital bed without great assistance from his aging parents. Amazingly, he continues to have a positive outlook on life and continues to make us laugh, reminds us to be good and giving to others. He asked his best friend just recently to share these words with us; "Tell the people you love that you love them. Give them a hug and kiss them for no reason. Show them you love them, not just with words but with actions, and please know that he (Andy) loves everyone of you more than you will ever know. Oh, and always smile, it's contagious."

Andy would never ask for help, but we, his family and friends, could never repay what he has brought to our lives throughout his life's journey.

Contributions received will go into an account recently set up to assist Andrew and his family with his overwhelming medical and financial needs.  We hope to honor Andy in this and pay it forward as he would.

Please keep the prayers coming! God has blessed us with this extra time with Andy as he continues to be an inspiration to all.
