Mirta & Angelo Hurricane relief

Hi, my name is Elizabeth LoPriore. I've created this campaign on the behalf of my great-grandparents Mirta Iris and Angelo Vazquez who have been left devastated by hurricane Maria. Mirta and Angelo live in the city of Caguas, Puerto Rico just south of San Juan. This past Wednesday the eye of the storm flew directly over their small city, demolishing everything in its path. Mirta and Angelo, 80 and 84 years of age, hid in the bathroom for hours as they waited for the worst of the category 4 storm to pass. When things calmed enough that they were able to emerge from their bathroom shelter they found their home totally ravaged. Their windows were shattered, a 24 ft. tree had ripped through their living room, their front door blasted off. My grandparents looked out across their decimated neighborhood to the neighbors yard where they saw the roofs from their home blown off by 200mph winds. Mirta and Angelo have been left without electricity, a clean water supply that is only set to last for 3 days, and are currently in urgent care as a result of Angelo's inability to refrigerate the insulin his diabetes requires him to take. They are residing in the shell of the home that they built for fear that what little hasn't been destroyed by Hurricane Maria will be looted. Flooding has not ceased as a result of the ongoing torrential rain, and at our last contact with them winds continue to whip at 130mph. While Mirta and Angelo are both of incredibly resilient spirit their old age and poor health makes moving forward in these conditions nearly impossible. The help of your donation will afford them clean water, generator powered refrigeration for insulin, and materials and labor towards making their home an inhabitable place where they can remain safe as storm conditions rage on.
