Puerto Rico NEEDS our help!

As many of you already know, my husband, Fernando AKA Fernandito, recently moved to NY from PR, and his entire family remains there on the island. Many of you have seen him perform, either here in NY, on the Rockaway boardwalk, or there in Rincon, Isabela or elsewhere on the island. Lots of you have asked how you can support him. We are so lucky to have friends that are willing to help, and he is so grateful for anything you can do to help his family and friends rebuild. This is a time of crisis, and every little bit is so helpful.


As a community we have had a long-standing romance with the island of Puerto Rico. Many of my friends, and local parents have homes in Rincon, Aguadilla, Isabela, and Aguada. We send our Long Beach High School seniors on annual spring break to Puerto Rico, we go there en masse for President's week, we get married there, we surf there. We are intimately connected, with many members of the Long Beach and Rockaway Communities relocating to LIVE there.

We know that there is a scarcity of resources and that they are going to need a LOT of help to rebuild their homes. Having lived through Hurricane Sandy, next to the beach, we all know how it feels to start from scratch. What we can't imagine, is how it would feel to function without electricity for months.

These funds will go directly toward providing resources requested for friends and family on the island. Right now they need everything- from water to gasoline, energy sources (solar), water filters, food, wipes, bug repellent and disinfectant. We are organizing a trip for Fernando to take these supplies directly to those in need as soon as it is recommended and feasible.

Como comunidad hemos tenido un romance de larga data con la isla de Puerto Rico. Muchos de mis amigos y padres locales tienen casas en Rincón, Aguadilla, Isabela y Aguada. Enviamos a nuestros ancianos de la escuela secundaria de Long Beach en vacaciones anuales de primavera a Puerto Rico, vamos allí en masa para la semana del presidente, nos casamos allí, allí surfamos. Estamos íntimamente conectados, con muchos miembros de las comunidades de Long Beach y Rockaway que se trasladan a VIVIR allí.
Sabemos que hay escasez de recursos y que van a necesitar MUCHA ayuda para reconstruir sus hogares. Habiendo vivido a través del huracán Sandy, junto a la playa, todos sabemos cómo se siente para empezar desde cero. Lo que no podemos imaginar, es cómo se sentiría a funcionar sin electricidad durante meses.
Estos fondos se destinarán directamente a proporcionar los recursos solicitados para los amigos y la familia en la isla. En este momento necesitan de todo: desde agua hasta gasolina, fuentes de energía (solar), filtros de agua, alimentos, toallitas, repelente de insectos y desinfectantes. Estamos organizando un viaje para Fernando para llevar estos suministros directamente a los necesitados tan pronto como sea recomendable y factible.
