Preface: Writing an obituary is something I would ask Jenny to help me with and somehow she would know exactly what to do.

Jenny Rae Ekvall, 33, died on Sunday evening, November 20th in her home surrounded by her loving family.  She fought a courageous 5 year battle with neuroendocrine cancer.

She leaves behind a husband, Tim, and daughter, Arya, her parents Ron and Lelony Olson, grandmother Joyce Olson, sister Alayna and her husband Jeremy Brudevold, nephew Corbin, niece Leighton (all of Fort Ransom), sister Stacey (Fargo), Tim’s parents Tom and Deb Ekvall (Glasford, Illinois), as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jenny was born in Lisbon on January 2nd, 1983 and grew up in Fort Ransom.  She loved music and sang every chance she had.  She graduated from Lisbon High School in 2001 and went on to earn a Masters in Speech Pathology from UND in 2007.  Upon graduation, she moved to Kansas City and worked with recovering stroke patients at St. Lukes North Hospital.  She met Tim in December of 2007 and they married on August 7th, 2010 overlooking the valley above Fort Ransom.

As a child when you asked Jenny what she wanted to be when she grew up she always said, “A mommy”.  She was meant to be a mother and her wish came true when Arya Joyce was born 3 years ago and she certainly shines bright just like her mommy.

Jenny did not let her cancer define the woman she was and continued to live her life to the fullest.  She never turned down an invitation to celebrate, always lent a hand, passionately supported the New England Patriots, and loved her family and friends like none other.

People gravitated towards her and she will be missed always.  As our parents would say, “Love you more…”

Memorials may be made to Standing Rock Lutheran Church (136 Mill Road, Fort Ransom, ND 58033) or CHI Lisbon Hospice (995 Main St., Lisbon, ND 58054).
