Struggling to Survive (Ponce, PR)

We are the Alexander Family and we are trying to help our family in Puerto Rico. They were severely impacted by the wrath of Hurricane Maria, one of the deadliest and biggest hurricanes to hit in the history of Puerto Rico.

 

On September 20th, 2017 our family evacuated their homes in Villalba, Puerto Rico (a town northeast of Ponce) and gathered in my grandmother’s tiny home for shelter with just the clothes on their backs. As they braced themselves there for the storm, Hurricane Maria hit the island with full force thankfully sparing them their lives. However, nothing prepared them for the devastation ahead of them as they returned to their homes to find nothing. The hurricane took everything they owned and left them homeless. My Aunt Elizabeth Cruz and Cousin Miguel Lopez lost both of their homes with nothing to salvage. The entire family has been crowded in my grandmother’s home sleeping on the floor with no electricity.

 

My cousin traveled across the island to San Juan to finally communicate to us as that is the only place with cellular towers currently. They are currently trying to obtain food & water as their supply is running very low. It was such a relief to us when we finally heard word from our family as we had been trying to contact them for weeks with worrisome hearts. We are completely devastated to hear they are struggling tremendously and we are trying our best to help our family as communication right now is very hard. We pray every day God will help us in this time of need. Please help our family rebuild their lives and survive during this catastrophic event. Any donation helps!
