Susan Steele's Last Expenses

On the morning November 20th Susan Steele lost her battle against her many medical problems. She went to sleep while I was starting to get her dressed for a day with her visiting grand children from Denver. She had lost the use of her legs a week earlier, before that she lost control of her bladder. Susan had became a paraplegic and could no longer move on her own. She was so tired of fighting for life. I think that the infection that had caused the loss of her leg had came back and got to her spine, bladder and kidneys, caused everything to just shut down. That was the end, the fight was over. Susan was love of my life and will be missed so many people who have known her. Unfortunately I had not only lost love of my life, I was left many bills where we had needed to use credit cards to pay for medical supplies, medications, tests and Dr appointments. On top of all of this, Susan's Social Security is gone which means I now have almost a $1000 less a month to take care of the bills. I really don't like to ask for anything, especially money, but I would really like to keep living in my house. I thank everyone who donated already, and gave all they could.Thank you so much. Below is the original text from when we were sure Susan was going to be walking soon. THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL POST: Susan's life changed forever on May 11, 2017 when her right leg was amputated about 5 inches below the knee. This all started in December 2015 with ankle fusion surgery. Recovery was complicated with slow healing, lots of doctor visits, and mobility issues. Then in August 2016 the implant broke so she still couldn't walk on her right foot. Then at the beginning of May 2017 Susan started getting sick. She wasn't feeling well, she was fatigued all the time, she stopped eating, she wasn't drinking nearly as much water as normally and she start running a fever as high as 105. Then the confusion and constantly sleeping. I was terrified and called 911 over her objections, that was May 7th, 2017. The doctor's found she was in sepsis with a massive staph infection, MSSA and Encephalitis. The infection was based in the implant in the right ankle. Gangrene had started in the right foot and the only thing they could do to save her life, was amputate her leg just below the knee. This was followed by a month on IV antibiotics. Susan is working as hard she can on her recovery. Getting used to the prosthetic leg is a slow process. She has had several infections that really caused weakness and fatigue. Susan is fighting to get strength back in a leg she really hasn't been able to use 21 months. This whole situation with constant doctor visits, including specialists, medical supplies, prescriptions, copays, physical therapy and so much more has cost us more than we could imagine. Living on a fixed retirement income has caused us to max out our credit cards to pay for the expenses so far and we are still going need to get our car modified for Susan to drive with her left foot or hands. We also need a lift for her scooter so I don't have to keep lifting it into and out of the car. We thank all of our friends and family for their love and support. We find it very difficult to ever ask for help from anyone, but our friends have urged us to do this, they know our needs. We will appreciate any help you can give.
