Thank you to all of our many supporters both locally and accross the world who have called, emailed and dropped by to offer us help.
So many of you have suggested we do a Gofundme page. Some of you have already contributed and we are extremely grateful. We are not use to asking for help but in the face of this disaster we are left with very little choice.
We are working on and have submitted applications through FEMA, SBA Disaster relief and other organizations but the timeline to receive those funds, if approved, creates a hardship in and of itself. We are in need of help now.
The costs associated with the transporting and relocation of our flock and then immediatly returning them back to the farm over a five day period while traveling close to 300 miles of round trip driving was devastating to us financially. The daily routine to feed, water, collect eggs on two farms 70 miles arpart and trying to put our farm back together was physically, emotionally and fiancially overwhelming. We lost several birds in the transition back and forth and production is down over 60%.
After transporting over 1000 of our pastured girls in under 36 hours to a safe place over 65 miles away, we had to make the tough choice to leave several of the birds behind. We had help from great friend to protect several birds but that still was not enough to protect them all.
Due to the fact we could not take all of our birds with us because of time constraints and the lack of transporting equipment, we came back to many of our birds dead or in seriously poor condition. The predators had already moved in and the standing water and mosquitos has added to the stress of these birds and we are going to experience more losses. We are working daily to secure everyone and reintroduce the guard dogs.
The wind and flooding damage to our Pastured operations, Farm stand, storage buildings and other poultry housing is extensive. Trying to do the repairs, buy supplies and keep the day to day operations funded has taken its toll on us and we simply need help to see our farm back to a point of operational integrity.
WE NEED TO to buy materials, hire help to repair and stabilize our poultry housing, repair our Farm Stand so we can open for business, repair equipment lost to power surges like refrigeration, repair damaged roofs and siding on buildings, haul off trash, and collect and clean up tons of broken trees and fallen debri amd at this moment it is more than our small farm can muster at this time.
All of this work to be done, coupled with the loss of income from not being open to generate sales has created such a financial hardship for us it makes a recovery almost impossible without your help.
Our pastured flock is being housed in tighter quarters with limited space. The pastures need to be tended so we can reinstall reparid housing and fencing. Production is down for obvious reasons such as physical stress and environmental stress. We try micro manage the flock to ease stress as much as we can but we cannot be perfect under the circumstances.
IN ADDITON TO POULRTY LOSSES, we had a great deal of wind and water damage to our okra crop, mature banana trees, papaya trees and our many large Moringa trees. We need extra help to try and salavage our crops for a decent harvest.
Many of our wholesale customers are still not making orders we are not sure when they will be fully functional. We are so close to our prime season which begins in November but with all the loss and so much to be done we may miss much of the season which could be permanatly crippling.
We estimate we have and will spend between 10-15,000 to make reparis, remove debri, and replace our losses and we will loose between 15,000-20,000 in sales over the duration of this rebuilding process.
