My sister Meredith is one of two law enforcement officers that work at St. John's Virgin Island US National Park. She survived hurricane Irma hunkering down in her government house with her dogs and two friends. They spent hours under a mattress hiding and fearing for their lives as the storm passed and was no longer outside the walls of her home but was inside her home. She kept them calm and as it passed began to lead the charge of locating and checking the rest of the park employees. She helped gather them and supplies to higher ground and safety. All park employees are safe and sound. She continues to stay on the island even as her coworkers leave and teams of people come to help her. She was on the scene beginning to clear roads and help the people there as soon as she could. She remains now to make sure the park and all of her island family continues the path of recovery. She has lost just about all of her possessions. She has luggage and a few clothing items. She has lost her furniture and bedding. She will soon transfer to her new post at Lowell National Park in Massachusetts but has lost all her winter clothing. She serves faithfully the world we were given and the people she is surrounded by for over 10 years and now I pray we can return the favor to her.
