Get Claudy Off The Street

Donation protected
Yesterday I took this lovely young woman a cup of tea and a sandwich and asked her what she was doing begging on Putney High Street.
She is 25 and from Somerset, nicely spoken and genuine. She is an epileptic and cannot work. When she was assessed - because of the benefits cuts, she had an epileptic fit and was unable to finish the assessment and was taken to Hospital. Because the assessment was not completed in time due to her illness, all her benefits have been stopped and she and her lovely friendly dog Milly have found themselves homeless and on the street for 13 weeks.
The only family she had to turn to in Somerset were her grandparents who both passed away during the past 6 months.
She doesn't drink or smoke and she has no means of employment due to her Epilepsy which began when she was kicked in the head by a horse.   Prior to this she had completed training and had a good job helping children through therapy with animals.
She told me that if she raises £18.50 from begging she can pay for a place in a shelter in Vauxhall for one night for her and Milly. If she can't raise that each day she will have to sleep rough as the homeless shelters are not free to those from out of town!!  How can we allow this to happen to a vulnerable unwell person in this rich country?  She can't even see a doctor for her medication because she does not have an address.
My heart went out to this lovely, intelligent. genuine girl and I left her wanting desperately to help but not knowing how.
I decided to share her plight on my Facebook page and ask friends for any ideas they might have as to how she could get help.
Friends started posting helpful ideas and suggesting place she could try , when, all of a sudden. an email arrived saying "OMG that is Claudy , my ex daughter in law whom I am very fond of and who I have lost touch with and been searching for for months.  Please find her and tell her there is a place with me till I can get her help"
So I searched for Claudy and Milly today asking local shopkeepers to look out for her and to phone me when they saw her.
At 5pm she was spotted and I was able to give her the message about her Mother in Law who is coming up to London from the country on Saturday and will decide the next course of action.
We had an amazing respose to the story which was shared 47 times.  It has had 120 comments so far - all in a 24 hour period.
Several people have offered to send a donation.
I have decided to open up this page for Claudy as we need help to get through to Saturday.  She intends to continue to beg for her hostel money until Saturday (I will make sure that she has enough for the hostel each day) but a few extra pounds would really help to get her through the week.
