Surgery For Our Rescued Dog "Diesel"

Diesel is a 4 year old Great Dane mix that we rescued in 2016. We love him and he is the best dog we could have hoped for. Today around 1 am we rushed him to the emergency vet because he suddenly became ill very quickly and it seemed that something was very wrong. Once at the vet we learned he had suffered a twist in his stomach called a Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus which can happen in large breed dogs and it is fatal. We love him and needed to give him the chance to live through this. The surgery is estimated to be $8,693 on the high side and $5,745 on the low side. ( Update: Diesel is back at the vet clinic with difficulty breathing adding an additional $1,300- $3,700 to the vet bill for treatment of air pocket around his lungs ) the total cost of his surgery and treatments is set to surpass the $7k and possibly to $10k.

He is so important to our family and the kids. We are praying he makes it through this. At the vet office they took an X-ray to confirm diagnosis and we were told he has been shot multiple times in the past since he was "full" of BB pellets or bullet fragments. ( We had no idea of this before). It is CLEAR he has had a very rough life before we rescued/adopted him. He deserves a chance to continue living a happy life with us. We also have a cat (also a rescue) who has been a part of our family for about 3 years. We love our animals and do everything in our power to give them the best life. We know emergencies can happen when it comes to our pets and we try to keep emergency money on hand for this exact reason but all of this happening in ONE MONTH is difficult for us as a family. We just could not make the decision to put him down... so we appreciate any help anyone can offer. We are sincerely grateful.
