A home of our own

We aren't getting any younger and we are unable to get a decent mortgage, despite us both being hard workers. I have two jobs and my lovely husband works in warehousing. We have worked all our lives but have never been driven by money because to us work/life balance is really important. I look after other people with my therapy work and I am always telling others to follow their hearts and let go of stress because it is so bad for your health and well being, but being kind and helpful doesn't make you rich! We don't all have well paid jobs and savings.
I approached the bank to see if they could help us with a mortgage but the most they will lend us is £70,000. It's bonkers because we pay more out in rent than we would ever do with a mortgage. We need a big deposit if we are to be able to afford something suitable, I'd like still to be able to work from home, which I cannot do with one bedroom and I'd like for my friends and grandchildren to stay over sometimes. Even if we look at Shared Ownership it just wouldn't be affordable for us, having to pay mortgage and rent and the properties that are available are just so depressing. We like living close to the countryside and I know I'd be depressed living in a built up area. The trouble with renting is it's so much more expensive than having a mortgage. However we have been brilliant tenants always leaving rental properties in a better state than we found them. In truth I have always fancied living in a log cabin in the woods, but we can't even do that without being able to buy land, and get planning permission etc.! I know there are loads of people like us who are finding it more and more difficult to get on the property ladder and we are running out of mortgage years, it won't be long before I retire and the thought of having still to pay out rent to a landlord really worries me. That is why the banks will only lend us a small amount, because we don't have many mortgage years to retirement.  I wonder if anyone out there would consider helping us achieve the simple dream of owning our own home? It would truly mean the world to us. I feel a  bit like I'm begging and I have really thought hard before posting this but at the same time, I know there are lots of people who totally understand our dilemma and maybe there are some people out there looking to help people like us? Maybe I am a dreamer but I believe that sometimes dreams can come true with the help of others. If this is meant to be it will be.
