In Memory of Chip

On Friday, the 13th of November, Chip Farris (Cannon) fell 10 feet when his extension ladder collapsed beneath him. He landed on the ladder, breaking his ribs, two vertebrae in his back and collapsing his left lung. The most severe injury came when his head hit the concrete, fracturing his skull and causing severe brain trauma.
At present, Chip remains in a semi-comatose state with only a few conscious moments a day. He knows his name, but is unable to say much more.
Chip and Debi recently moved to Angel Fire, New Mexico, where Chip has been renovating the house they bought—one purchased with major flood damage. Since summer, he has worked 10 hours a day, 7 days a week to get the house finished by the end of the year. He has done all the construction himself and when finished, Debi and Chip dreamed of a simpler life. Debi retired just a few months ago, but planned to continue nursing part time when they finished the house, and Chip planned to return to his sales job, working from home starting in January.
With Chip in the hospital three hours from Angel Fire, and Debi traveling back and forth between Angel Fire, Arizona and Albuquerque while trying to manage all that life has suddenly put on her shoulders, she is in a low place. As many of you know, they lost their son Cannon in January.
The bills are mounting: hour ride to Taos via ambulance, airlift to the trauma hospital in Albuquerque, days in ICU, weeks in a trauma hospital, and soon he’ll be moved to a skilled nursing facility, followed by an inpatient rehab facility. The construction has to be completed by outside contractors, and now making the bathroom wheelchair accessible has been added. Though we have faith that Chip will get better, the neurologist tells Debi it will be many months if not years. He will not be able to return to work for a long time, if ever. Debi will be his caretaker when he is able to come home, and she will need help.
With Debi’s permission, I am asking friends to help in any way they can. 100% of donations will go to Debi and Chip. Instead of spending money on a get-well card, meal, or flowers, please consider a contribution to our friends. This single event is life-altering and financially devastating. Unsure about a goal, I consulted a doctor familiar with subarachnoid hemorrhage, the type of brain bleed Chip suffered. He actually suggested a larger amount.
