Fred Peter Chabot, Jr., age 74, of San Diego, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Sharp Memorial Hospital after complications from heart and kidney failure. He was a devoted loving husband, father, brother, and uncle. Survived by wife, Julita (“Julie”) and beloved canine companion Ella; sister, Bonnie Melvin, spouse Don Melvin; son, Freddie Chabot, III, spouse, Justine Chabot, grandson, Sawyer; daughter, Rissa Witul, spouse Jacob Witul, grandchildren, Tria and Audrey. He was born and raised in Chicago and joined the Army in his 20s. He worked for American Airlines and moved to San Diego to get away from Chicago’s winters. He met Julie through his co-worker and soon to be brother-in-law, Richard LaVigne. They were married in 1985. He and Julie loved to travel; a Winnebago was the family conveyance for a time on trips and when he suffered a work injury and complication in the mid 1990s that left him in a wheelchair, he still enjoyed far-flung cruises with Julie seeing the world – Alaska, the Mediterranean including Greece and Italy, and other memorable trips. Even a short cruise in the San Diego Bay on a Hornblower ship was a favorite outing for him, as he was able to celebrate special occasions with family. He maintained a love for air traffic and enthusiastically followed flight “ride-alongs” on the internet and was a fountain of knowledge on the history of many civilian aircraft. He retired from American Airlines, a member of the Vanguard retiree association there; a member of the Knights of Columbus; was a Freemason; and was an active member of Good Shepherd Church and choir. He was a beloved father, uncle, and friend to many, who miss him dearly. He was the loving partner to a wife who cared for him in sickness and in health. Viewing services will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday September 12 and 13 at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121, between 4 and 8 pm. A celebration of his life will take place at Good Shepherd Church, Good Shepherd Church 8200 Gold Coast Dr, San Diego, CA on Thursday, September 14 at 10 am with burial service to follow. Any contribution is greatly appreciated!
