If you've had the opportunity to meet our mother then you what a sincere, honest, kind woman she is, she is the kind of woman who always chooses to smile, even when life doesn’t always hand her lemons. To you, she may be a friend, a former colleague, a relative, or even a church buddy, but to us she is known as mom, our hero, our support system, and the one person we can’t imagine life without.
This January 2017 that big beautiful unbreakable smile was put to the test. As our mother who most of you know as Debby was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer.
Immediately her world turned upside down, but her faith and smile remained in tack.
weeks later she had surgery to remove her tumor and some of her colon, during the operation the doctor noticed a 2nd tumor in the stomach, and ended up taking some lymphnodes out to test for cancer. Pathology came back and we once again had tough news to digest, the cancer had metastasized to the lymphnodes. As she recovered from surgery our mother spent hours researching what things would help her beat this cancer, she sought out numerous medical opinions and facilities, got pet scans, cts, multiple blood test, radically changed her diet, started cancer juicing and working out daily, she was determined to fight for her life. Then the pet scan results came in and we were told the cancer had now spread to the liver in three separate locations. We were devastated but held on to hope even though the prognosis wasn’t good. We looked to find a doctor/oncologist willing to perform the liver surgery she needed. We finally found one but while waiting for the appointment to come we received news that our mother had been taken via ambulance to the hospital and was going to be undergoing emergency surgery. while at the ER they found a large tumor on her only ovary which caused it to twist and rupture, after a surgery and a rocky recovery we were told the pathology report showed the tumor was in fact cancerous thus it now metastasized to the ovary. With broken hearts we anxiously awaited the appointment with the liver doctor but when that day came we realized that liver surgery was no longer an option, you see they missed something on the PET scan and also gotten results from the CT performed in the ER that stated our mom was now diagnosed with Peritoneal Carcinoma Stage IVB It's a rare cancer in the thin tissue that lines abdomen wall and covers all your major organs. It's incurable and the surgery to possibly prolong your life by months is very risky and requires a minimum of 12 hours on the operating table and 4 months recovery with about a 10% fatality. (Cyto Reduction HIPEC) She/We knew if we only had our mother for 1-3 more months that it would not be spent in a hospital or bed ridden watching her suffer just for a couple months longer with us all. So, She/We started seeking out alternative treatments. The problem is without my mom being able to work and her insurance only covering in-state and conventional treatments (which isn’t an option) we are left picking up the cost. We have already spent thousands of dollars on supplements, medication, organic food, juicing, medical test, alternative treatment such as Vitamin C IVs, Ozone blood therapy, and Mistletoe treatments at Namaste Clinic in Durango, Co and now the Financial burden has become too much for us, we need help. we need YOUR help to save our moms life, smile and to keep her fighting.
